About Deb
Daughter for a Day was founded by me, Deb Shepherd.
I've always enjoyed helping others, and it genuinely fills my cup knowing I've made a positive difference in someone's day. My experience comes from a variety of caring, people-focused roles, including a primary school teacher, working in my parents' rest homes, and running my own businesses. These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, compassion, reliability, and treating every person as an individual.
Through my decluttering business, Done and Dusted, I've also supported clients through downsizing, life transitions, and periods of overwhelm, reinforcing how valuable practical support and a listening ear can be.

The inspiration for Daughter for a Day came when my dad had an accident on his farm and was recovering. During that time, I found myself taking on many of the tasks a daughter naturally would, visiting him every day, running errands, helping organise things, liaising with medical staff, coordinating appointments with his healthcare team, and providing support wherever it was needed.
Dad often told me how much he looked forward to my visits and how much they brightened his day. It made me realise just how important companionship, practical support, and a familiar face can be.

Around the same time, I noticed how much my mum enjoyed our outings together. Whether it was going shopping, having lunch, getting her nails done, or simply spending time together, she always came home smiling and would talk to Dad afterwards about how much she had enjoyed the day. Those small moments gave her something to look forward to and reminded me that sometimes it's the simple things that can make all the difference.

I'm a proud mum to two amazing adult children, who are my greatest achievement. Family has always been at the heart of my life, and it's one of the reasons Daughter for a Day means so much to me.
Spending time with my family has taught me the importance of kindness, patience and simply being there for the people you love. Those are the same values I bring to every client I support.

Outside of work, you'll usually find me at the gym, catching up with family and friends over a coffee, or enjoying everything Northland has to offer.
I'm naturally organised, enjoy helping others and believe it's often the little things that can make someone's day brighter.

My goal is simple: to provide caring, personalised companionship and practical support that helps older people continue enjoying life while giving their families peace of mind.
I hope every client finishes our time together feeling happier, valued and looking forward to the next visit.
